ABSTRACT:
Medicinal plants are used in the health care system which generally involves the mankind for treating various diseases. Medicinal plants are unceasing source of herbal medicine from which many molecules are being isolated for the treatment of various diseases. About 80% of the world’s population is dependent mainly on traditional medicines obtained from natural source. This review summarizes the research carried out on the plant Parkia biglandulosa. Parkia biglandulosa belonging to the family Mimosaceae is commonly known as African locust bean. Its various parts are used against wide range of ailments. Traditionally, different parts of the plant are used as antiulcer, antibacterial activity, antifungal activity, anti-inflammatory activity. Medicinal properties of this plant is due to presence of numerous secondary metabolites like tannis, saponins, glycosides, sterols and triterpenoids. Other chemical compounds which are isolated from the plant are sterols and triterpenes, saponosides, tannins, reducing compounds, coumarins, anthocyanosides, flavonosides. Hence this article aims to provide a comprehensive review on chemical constituents, pharmacological properties on Parkia biglandulosa.
