ABSTRACT:
Background: Stachytarpheta indica, a common medicinal plant in tropical and subtropical areas, has long been used in many ethnomedical systems to treat a variety of illnesses, such as infections, fever, inflammation, and digestive issues. Main body: Recent pharmacological studies have revealed that S. indica possesses significant therapeutic potential due to its rich phytochemical profile, including flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, phenolics, and terpenoids —indicates that it has substantial therapeutic potential. This review comprehensively explores the therapeutic potential of S. indica with attention on its taxonomy, distribution and habitat, phytochemical composition, pharmacological activities and toxicological profile. The pharmacological actions of the plant's bioactive components, including their hepatoprotective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antidiabetic properties, are thoroughly examined in this review. Additionally covered are the prospects for medication development, dose considerations, and safety profile. The significance of Stachytarpheta indica as a viable option for next drug research and its possible incorporation into contemporary therapeutic procedures are highlighted in this review. Conclusion: Stachytarpheta indica's inherent therapeutic qualities have made it a promising plant in contemporary medicine. According to studies, it might help in the treatment of a number of ailments, including pain, infections, inflammation, and digestive issues. This plant may prove to be an important component of future medications with additional study and clinical testing.
