Review on Gomutra (Cow Urine)

ABSTRACT:

Today we know various types of of diseases affect the humaNootropicn and for that we use various types of chemical based medicines. These medicines gives us relief from respective diseases but sometime large proportion of this chemical in the body give us some side-effects or damage different body organs like Liver, Kidney etc. Because some drug having solubility only in organic solvents so for excretion of unwanted drug it is necessary to dissolve in water so it goes in liver for metabolism process. In our tradition many diseases are cure with help natural remedies. But today we donot know enough information of these natural remedies so we avoiding the use of these natural remedies. Cow urine is one of them it is obtained from cow. In our tradition we also called as Gomutra.It has various medicinal as well as agricultural uses.

Cow urine contents are

Water 95%

Urea 2.5%

Hormones

Enzymes 2.5%.

Potassium

Amino acids

I] Uses:

A] Agricultural use Cow urine:

1] For production of Vermicompost:

Distillation waste and cow’s urine has been used for production of vermicompost.

 

2] Biopesticides:

Cow urine after addition of Neem leaves is a wonderful biopesticide. Such biopesticides are safe to use, do not accumulate in the food chain and as such do not have the harmful effects like chemical pesticides.[1]

 

B] Therapeutic uses of cow urine:

1] Skin diseases:

It is very helpful in all kind of skin problems, itching, sunburns, eczema, psoriasis, acne etc.

 

2] Stomach, kidney and heart diseases:

Cow dung and urine are best cures for stomach diseases, heart diseases, kidney ailments and tuberculosis.

 

3] Stones:

It can be used for stones. A glass of fresh cow urine should be taken as a first thing in the morning for 21 days, Uric acid in cow urine dissolve these stones to a manageable size.

4] Antidiabetic effect:

The antidiaetic effect of Cow urine distillate and a standard drug, glibenclamide, was studied in streptozotocin diabetic rats. The Cow urine Distillate produced a significant reduction of the elevated blood glucose, serum cholesterol and serum triglyseroides levels when compared with the diabetic control.

 

5] Liver problem:

Daily doses of 1-2 ounces of warm cow urine are used to treat cirrhosis of liver

 

6] Jaundice:

Antimony sulphide and cow urine taken internally are used to cure malignant jaundice.

 

7] Immunostimulant:

Cow urine has immunostimulant activity in plants and animal health. Research have been done to evaluale the whole freeze dried Cow Urine and the fraction of Cow Urine for their immunomodulatory potential in rats. As per findings dried cow urine exhibited better effect on immune system compaired to methanol, ethyl acetate, aqueous and acetone fractions of cow-urine.

 

8] Anticovulsant Agent:

A herbal preparation popular in Nigeria is based on cow’s urine and some herbs known as cow urine concoction (CUC). Its major pharmacological actions are anticonvulsant and hypoglycemic effects.

 

9] Cysts:

For the case of sebaceous cyst incision followed by washing with cow’s urine is prescribed.

 

10] Bioenhencer:

Bioenhencers are substances, which do not possess drug activity of their own but promote and augment the bioactivity or bioavailability or the uptake of drugs in combination therapy.[1]

III] Gomutra Dosage:

The classical ayurvedic dosage of Gomutra (Cow Urine) is as follows:

Children

(Above the age of 8 years)

0.15 ml per Kg of body weight

Adults

10 ml

Pregnancy and Lactation

Not Recommended

Geriatric Dosage

0.15 ml per Kg of body weight

Maximum Possible Dosage

20 ml per day

 

IV] How to Take Cow Urine:

Anupan (Adjuvant)

4 parts of water.

Dosage Frequency

Twice daily

Medication Time

An empty stomach, after a meal

 

V] Cow Urine Side Effects:

Gomutra (Cow Urine) can also cause side effects as follows:

·         Restlessness.

·         Mouth ulcers.

·         Heartburn.

·         Hyperacidity.

·         Burning or heat sensation in the body.

·         Burning pain in the abdomen.

 

These side effects of cow urine generally appear in people with Pitta Body Type or patients suffering from Pitta disorders. If it is used wisely considering Kaphadosha, it might not cause any side effects.

 

VI] Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Gomutra (Cow Urine) is likely unsafe during pregnancy. Because it reduces Kapha, but pregnant women need such food or supplement that improves and increases Kapha in the body. According to this concept, it might lead to delivering a child with low body weight and some pitta diseases.

 

In similar ways, lactating mothers need some foods that nourish their body as well as improves breastmilk supply. Cow urine might act the opposite. Due to anti-kapha, it might decrease the breastmilk supply.[2]

 

VII] Ayurveda Prefers Cows Urine:

Cows urine mixed with some sea salt was commonly used by rowdy elements of olden times after receiving a thrashing from a mob because of its amazing capacity to shrink swellings and ease sprains. This is attributed to Urokinase

 

 

Cows urine also consist of 24 types of salts (lavana in sanskrit- they are sodium, potassium, magnesium, more here. It also includes gold salts, one of the notable causes of glowing face exhibited by people who regularly consume Indian cow’s urine or milk.

 

Human and cow urine consist of Urokinase. This is an essential ingredient in some anti-cancer drugs. Drinking cow’s urine once a week will help thwart cancerous cell growth. However it is futile in cases of advanced stages where even modern medicine is lacking in solutions.[3]
